'It is a shame if Victoria Bridge is left to crumble'

A COUPLE of newlyweds in their glamorous wedding outfits seemed unperturbed as they posed for the camera on the 120-year-old Victoria Bridge’s railway sleepers.

With feet dangling between the wooden slabs atop the 12m-high structure, the sight alone was enough to send shivers down anybody’s spine, invoking fear and excitement.

Such is the attraction of the historical bridge over Sungai Perak in Karai, which was gazetted as a national heritage site in 2016.

‘It is a popular location for wedding photos and many couples solemnised their union by being photographed here, a slice of the country’s past,’ said a stall owner who sells drinks there.

‘Perak Man’, meteor crater, volcano dust among ecotourism products in Lenggong

IPOH – The ‘Perak Man’, meteorite impact crater and dusts from Mount Toba volcano eruption in Sumatera, will be highlighted as ecotourism products to promote Lenggong as a National Geopark area, said Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.

In addition he said, the geology of the area and cultural diversity of the local community would  continue to be promoted as an archaeological study site.

“Billboards and information panels are being designed and will be placed at strategic locations around the Lenggong Valley to promote and introduce it as a National Geopark area.

“All the facilities are specially for tourists who want to explore the uniqueness of nature, geological diversity, archaeology and culture in the Lenggong Valley,” the Lenggong MP told Bernama today.

Temenggor Lake reopens today

IPOH: After 19 months of closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic, tourism activities in Temenggor Lake, Gerik, located some 170 kilometres away from here, have finally reopened today.

Tourism Perak Management Berhad, in a statement, said the reopening of the sector would bring a ray of hope to houseboat operators and indirectly help to boost the economy of the local community.

However, it said the relaxation for tourism activities is subject to several conditions that need to be adhered to by houseboat operators, in addition to the standard operating procedures (SOP) stipulated by the National Security Council.

“Among the requirement is that any houseboat operators who wanted to resume operation need to register with the Hulu Perak District and Land Office and the Fisheries Department,” the statement read.
